Neuro linguistic programming and personal training

Neuro linguistic programming, or NLP as it is more often known, is a powerful set of techniques that help you overcome your own self imposed obstacles, and beliefs that restrict and limit you.

 

 

What is NLP? 

The name is from;-

neuro, mind,

linguistic, language, including body language

programming, thinking and behavioural patterns.

 

It is the study of how learned patterns affect the way we act and think.   A set of insights and skills to use mind, body and emotions effectively. 

 

The brain is like a computer, and records everything you have ever heard, felt or seen.   NLP helps you make sure you focus on, and recall best, the good bits!

 

How does NLP work?

Sometimes thinking patterns learned over time are helpful, sometimes less so.    NLP helps you recognise and reprogramme unhelpful patterns, giving you a choice in behaviour and the way you think.

 

How does this fit in with personal training?

NLP helps you succeed, and keeps you on track with your personal training programme.     NLP uses techniques to keep motivated, and  reframes previous beliefs that limit your capabilities.

 

How does this work in real life?

 

We often operate on trigger cycles.   For example:-

 

Stress = biscuit = stress

 

Recognising these patterns is half the battle. 

 

Is it positive thinking?

Yes, and also very practical as it turns thinking into reality.
